Named after and set above these caverns, is Le Domaine Les Crayères – a hotel and estate for which 5 stars could have been invented. And, lying just a couple of hours from Calais, it positively begs to be explored and enjoyed.

Originally built in the early 20th century, interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon’s work is an essay in sophistication, delicacy and subtlety.
The suites are classically furnished, with silks, velvets and gold leaf evoking splendour in the classic style. The suites on the top floor have their own stone balconies overlooking the classical topiary gardens and the parkland.
Right down to Hermes bathroom products and the fluffiest towels, the ethos here is simple: find the best of everything.
Downstairs, the La Rotonde bar gives breathtaking views of the grounds and, in a clear night, the sparkle of fizz in your glass complements the stars in the sky. In the gourmet Le Parc restaurant, Philippe Mille derives his inspiration from the seasons, giving epic life to natural flavours. Or, if a more easy-going convivial mood takes you, the Brasserie Le Jardin brings together playful dishes, some 20 wines by the glass and a modern, architectural ambience inspired by the great city of Reims.
